Musical copies

I like music, almost all kinds. I am after all human, and as we always say, each has their own tastes. This is not a post about my particular tastes, but what music can/should/would be if we perhaps had some more innovation.

This is something that I do not see and would welcome all evidence to the contrary; is the new music dubstep? Ok, I will take that more than the rest.

But here is where my gripe is; copying or formulating a song based on the same old things. Observe the following.

Pachelbel Rant

In where we see that this little “Canon” music has penetrated all genres and helped make some very well known songs.

Axis of Awesome four chords

Allow annotations to see the songs referenced – they are not obtrusive

In where we see a great comedy performance (with great musical talent) referencing 38 very well known successful songs sung with four chords.

Finally, How to make a hit Pop Song

In where we follow a formula that seems to go nowhere, but the result is frighteningly reminiscent of other songs we all know and love.

Is this OK? Does this lessen our appreciation of these songs because we analysed them and found them to be somewhat less “original” than maybe previously thought of?
