SAVE SAVE SAVE

My sister just lost 8 hours of her life…

Yesterday I found out about her small fondness for adventure-puzzle games since she practicaly tried every Escape flash game from KillSomeTime.com. Today I gave her a copy of Syberia I found in our local second hand store. She was thrilled, excitted, like a small child discovering something. She solved puzzle after puzzle, every little frustration forgotten as soon as the obstacle was overcome, every little clue a cause for a smile. Then, 8 hours after the game first launched… it crashed πŸ™

I dont know why the world’s computer gaming creation companies havent thought of that little thing my sister asked: “So? Just stop it and load the last thing it saved…“. If only… For some reason, Syberia doesnt autosave, not even when my sister finished a big chapter and got on the train and went to the university. And now, 8 hours are gone, as if they never existed. Now she knows to save, there is no point to anger at anyone… or is there?

  1. first u ruin my life by discovering my “dirty little secret” and handing to me a game that made me a basket case (seriously, 8 hours sitting still in front of the pc…never happened before), but u even give me a damaged one that crashes on my startled, crying face minutes before i finish the second level, and then u impassively tell me “well yeah!! it crashed!!! well, you should ‘ve saved it!!!” u’re lucky i found the power (don’t know where) to contain myself…. well, now that i’m traumatized, i save every 5 minutes…grrrrr!!!

by the way…megeia for the new blog!!! πŸ˜›

ps: now that i come to think of it, i really DID lose 8 hours of my life…

  2. Oh my this is…interesting!

Women gamers are among the rarest specied in the world, second only to the african-american purple penguin (you never heard of it? well good, cause I never heard of women gamers). When they do indulge in a game (and I admit it, adventure games are the best hook for them… I guess somehow their mind doesn`t perceive them as “geeky”) they emerge the next day going back to their usual approach of computer gaming – that it sucks.

Ranting aside, a good tip: keep a sticker saying “save the whales” pinned on your screen. You will promote greenpeace ideals AND remember to save at the same time!

  3. DonΓƒΒ’Γ’β€šΒ¬Γ’β€žΒ’t be hard with your sister; all gamers in the world have at least one experience like your sister did; I remember this happened to me when I was 13 years old.

    Hmmm let me think…

So you have a teenage sister! :p

  4. Well, not realy. It was just her FIRST real game and as a novice gamer, she can be forgiven for such an error. Like I said in my post, I realy blame the coders for not thinking to autosave at certain key points.
